Road Charging, Dog-free Zones and Planning Permission for Horses!
|
|
The New Forest is hitting the news as controversial plans could make it the first National Park to levy an entry charge on tourists. The proposals by The National Parks Authority also include the introduction of new restrictions on the use of the forest by dogs and horses and periodic closure of sensitive areas and routes. The measures for the conservation of forest land are well-intentioned but extreme and many feel they are not properly thought through. |
|
A new pressure group, Forest Uprising, has been formed to fight the proposals. As the most popular UK holiday destination, the major concern has to be the potential impact on the New Forest's tourist industry which pumps huge amounts of money into the area.
Forest Uprising is also focused on the local issues for not just dog walkers who could be excluded from some car parks but also for those who keep horses for personal recreational use who would in future need to apply for planning permission to keep their animals.
If these proposals are successfully implemented for the New Forest, we have to expect that someone will suggest that maybe they could be applied to our other National Parks too. If you feel (like we do) that our remaining wild areas need to remain free for all to enjoy, then you can find out more about the proposals, join the debate or simply take a walk in the area to see what all the fuss is about by visiting our New Forest Pub Walks page. |
Win a New Forest Pub for £10
The Filly Inn, Brockenhurst, is up for grabs in a unique raffle!
|
|
** COMPETITION **
In the latest case of a property being offered as a raffle prize, the Filly Inn can be won by a would-be publican for the price of a £10 raffle ticket!
The Filly Inn is valued at almost £400,000 and lies close to Brockenhurst in the heart of the beautiful New Forest. |
|
The winner will get the remaining 20 year lease together with B&B accommodation, large restaurant and bike hire. The pub also comes with furniture, fixtures, fittings and whatever stock is unsold.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone longing to enter the pub trade but who does not have the capital to get started. However we all know of course that the pub business requires hard work, long hours and of course working capital too.
As you would expect from its New Forest location, The Filly Inn has some fantastic walking on its doorstep. In fact we have two pub walks you can download from this site - the Setley Pond pub walk through open heathland and the Royston Wood Nature Reserve pub walk which takes you through woodlandand down to the Lymington River.
If you want to see more details about the Filly Inn and read the terms and conditions of the competition then you can visit the win-pub.com website. This link takes you straight to the terms and conditions as the homepage has some fancy graphics which take forever to load!
Reading the details, this looks like a combination between a raffle and a competition as you have to answer an easy multiple choice question to qualify (i.e. what is "pub" short for? I told you it was easy!). Having bought your ticket(s), there will be a draw to select a shortlist of 100 who will have to answer three additional questions - it does not say yet what those are but I am expecting them to be easy and included simply to avoid falling foul of gaming legislation.
May the best publican-to-be win!
