PUB OF THE YEAR 2011 - Tempest Arms, Elslack, Yorkshire “With good food and drink, a great atmosphere and comfortable bedrooms, the Tempest Arms at Elslack is Pub of the Year 2011. Always deservedly busy, this 18th-century stone inn is stylish but understated with plenty of pubby character.” Licensees: Martin and Veronica Clarkson Tel: 01282 842450
NEW PUB OF THE YEAR 2011 - Ship, Tresaith, Wales “In its splendid setting overlooking a broad sandy surfing beach, this charming pub serves enjoyable food such as fresh fish and hot seafood platter. The views are great, not just the beach but the cliffs on either side, one with a high waterfall - we saw a peregrine falcon and some say they've spotted dolphins and seals." Licensee: Carl O-Shaughnessy Tel: 01239 811816
DINING PUB OF THE YEAR 2011 - Potting Shed, Crudwell, Wiltshire “Excitingly inventive cooking, a warm welcome for all, and a slightly quirky relaxed pubby atmosphere combine to make this proper country pub. They use their own-grown fruit, vegetables and produce from the villagers to whom they've loaned allotments.” Licensees: Jonathan Barry, Julian Muggridge and Laura Sheffield Tel: 01666 577833
BEER PUB OF THE YEAR 2011 - Watermill, Ings, Cumbria “A busy, cleverly converted pub with tremendous range of real ales including own brew and well liked food. 'I wish this was my local' say so many of our readers about this well run, bustling inn. There's a fantastic choice of real ales served by efficient, friendly staff and enjoyable food usefully served all day. It's a popular place to stay overnight too.” Licensee: Brian Coulthwaite Tel: 01539 821309
COUNTRY PUB OF THE YEAR 2011 - Royal Oak, Ramsden, Oxfordshire "It is a cosy, friendly and unpretentious pub. We've had nothing but praise this year for the friendly, long-serving staff, the interesting beers and good food; it's a nice place to stay too. One of our readers enjoyed this pub so much that he moved to the village to be closer to it." Licensee: Jon Oldham Tel: 01993 868213
TOWN PUB OF THE YEAR 2011 - Turf Tavern, Oxford, Oxfordshire “Some of our best big-town pubs have won their place on the strength of a great beer offering, others through good value food. In cities it's much rarer to find a pub that's really good for the broader virtues of real character and a genuinely warm and personal welcome. The ancient Turf Tavern, hidden away beneath Oxford's medieval walls, is a heart-warming oasis." Licensee: Stella Berry Tel: 01865 243235
LANDLORD OF THE YEAR 2011 - Red Lion, Kilmington, Wiltshire “Mr and Mrs Gibbs run this no-nonsense 15th-century country inn with professionalism and friendliness, and 'long may it go on' say several of our readers. Owned by the National Trust, it offers an attractive garden with good value traditional lunches.” Licensee: Chris Gibbs Tel: 01985 844263
