- Learn the Secrets of How to Turn a PUB WALK into PROFIT !
10 Steps to Success
It's official. Walking is
the most popular recreational activity with over 8 million of us walking at
least once a month, according to a recent Sport England survey. That's 8 million
people out there every month, looking for somewhere to walk and often somewhere
to stop for refreshment. Think about it. 8 million people working up a thirst
and an appetite. Every month.
So why not
tap into that market by showing them an exciting new walk featuring your own
pub? Read on to learn the 10 steps to success in creating your very own pub
walk - a walk that leads people straight to your door!
You don't even
have to write the walk yourself. Of course you can if you want to but why not
encourage your customers to do it for you. How? By running your own local contest
to find the best walks featuring your pub.
Registration
with MyFavouritePubWalks.com as a Participating Pub is free and it gives
your pub it's own profile page on the MyFavouritePubWalks.com website for 1
year. You decide what prizes you want to offer your customers (meal for two,
bottle of champage, etc.) and then simply use the MyFavouritePubWalks.com website
to run your own online local competition. Any customers entering a walk for
your pub automatically also qualify for one year's free membership of MyFavouritePubWalks.com
giving them unlimited downloads of all our pub walks.
Rest assured
that you do not need to make any payment to MyFavouritePubWalks.com as you are
helping us to build the most comprehensive database of pub walks anywhere. Even
after the first year, there will always be a brief overview of your pub and
contact details alongside each of your pub's walks.
If you would
like to reach out to these 8 million walkers and get some free advertising too,
then follow our 10 steps to success below.
10 STEPS TO SUCCESS
1. Register
your pub at MyFavouritePubWalks.com/publicans
and submit details for your pub's Profile Page. Don't forget to state the prizes
you are offering your customers and the closing date for entries. If you are
allowing people to vote then include the deadline for that too. We will then
set up your profile page and email you a link so you can check it.
2. Tell
your existing customers about the competition by downloading the posters
and flyers on the website and displaying these inside your pub. If they can
be visible from outside for passers-by then even better. If you have a mailing
list, tell them too, ideally by using the website's "Tell a Friend" facility
on your Profile Page as this will take them straight to the site and how to
enter. Alternatively paste the URL of your Profile Page into your mail.
3. Tell
your local newspaper about your competition (include details of your prizes),
giving them some information about your pub and include a photograph - they
are always looking for a good photo opportunity! If you are the first pub to
do this in your town, district or county then make sure they know it. The early
bird catches the worm!
4. Tell
your local radio station - they may even offer you the chance to speak on
radio about your competition, your pub, your prizes and what a walk from your
pub can offer walkers (scenery, historic interest, heritage trail or nearby
attractions).
5. Tell
your Parish Magazine by sending them a poster which they may include or
mention for free on their events page. As they are always looking for magazine
content, you could write them a short item on your own favourite walk from your
pub and include details of your competition prizes (remember to include that
photo).
6. Always
carry a few posters with you and ask to display one anywhere this is possible
- your local Tourist Information, library, supermarkets, corner shop, parish
notice boards, leisure centres, anywhere.
7. Make
an event of the judging. You could of course decide yourself who is the
winner for your pub but that would be missing a great opportunity. Why not engage
your customers by letting them participate and get them talking about your pub?
Have a specific night after the competition closes where you leave printouts
of each walk on the tables for people to pass around and discuss, even take
away with them. You could even throw in a few sandwiches and crisps if you wanted.
Encourage them to try the walks, then vote and comment online.
8. Choose
your winner(s) after the voting deadline by viewing the star ratings and
comments left by walkers on the website and then make sure everyone knows who
those winners are and the prizes they received.
9. Celebrate
the winning pub walk and again use it for maximum publicity. Tell your local
paper. Why not organise a group pub walk for your customers using the winning
entry? If it proves popular you could consider a monthly, quarterly or half
yearly walk perhaps using some of the other entries.
10. Finally
- remember any pub can use this as a route to new business and more profit
- try to be one of the first in your area to ensure you get the maximum benefit.
This is not just about attracting new customers. It is also about increasing
the spend of all customers, both new and existing, and giving everyone an added
reason to return to your pub again and again.
